SAFE, SOOTHING AND SERIOUSLY WELL NEEDED
Pregnancy is a beauitful, magical time- but let’s be real, it can also be incredibly tough on your body. From the aches and pains to the swollen ankles, growing a tiny human is no small feat. One of the most common reasons mums-to-be seek out massage is for good old fashioned pain relief.
What can pregnancy massage help with?
As your baby grows, and your body shifts to support the extra weight and changes in posture, its no surprise that discomfort creeps in. Lower back pain, sore hips and tight shoulders can make it harder to rest, move comfortably or simply enjoy the day. That’s where pregnancy massage comes in.
Being trained in prenatal massage we know how to relieve pregnancy related pain, whether it’s soothing sore backs, hips, or helping reduce swelling in your ankles. We’re also careful to avoid pressure in sensitive areas and always work with your comfort in mind.
Getting a full night's sleep may be starting to sound like a luxury (and the baby isn't already here yet, so you definitely need to be getting a good night rest) and massage helps with easing emotional tension by releasing feel good hormones like endorphins and serotonin.
By calming your nervous system and lowering your cortisol (your stress hormone) which can help lead to a deeper, more restful sleep. And when you're well rested, everything else- mood, energy and even digestion gets a little easier. Some research suggests that regular pregnancy massages may help with shorter, less painful labor. While it's definitely not a magic fix, improving muscle tone, promoting balance in your body and helping with a positive mindset it may help your body function more efficiently during labor and day to day.
So, is massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes, absolutely. We only massage from the second trimester, pressure is gentle to moderate aiming for a relaxing and relieving. Your comfort is always our priority. We also use a specially designed Belloost pillow, allowing you to lay on your front, something that can feel like a dream if you haven't done it in months! The mums-to be who have used the pillow definitly love it, especially as it’s supportive and places no pressure on your bump or breasts. Whether it's your first pregnancy or your third, taking time to care for yourself makes a real difference. If you've been feeling sore, tired or just need a little peace, a massage might be exactly what your body (and mind) need right now.
** For pelvic girdle pain (PGP), symphisis pubis dysfunction (SPD) or sciatica then Chiropractic is recommended instead as it will require a more thorough clinical investigation**
